I AM JAN

I sail as a deck officer in international merchant shipping.
Before that, I studied Nautical Science and Maritime Transport at Jade University of Applied Sciences in Elsfleth.

The dream of one day becoming a captain has been with me since childhood.
After a school internship in inland shipping, I spent five weeks aboard a container ship as part of the “Ferienfahrer” programme.
After graduating from school, I completed my cadetship before going on to study Nautical Science.
Today, I stand watch on the bridge of a container ship as a deck officer.

MARITIME ADVENTURES grew out of my desire to capture the impressions from my voyages and share them with the world. My photographs are taken along the way – out on the world’s oceans, in ports, and the many moments in between – offering perspectives that most people rarely get to see. They tell stories and provide a glimpse into life and work at sea.
